Two workshops exploring the traces left by time in space
(2012-2013)

WORKSHOP 1

What defines a construction, besides its form and volumes? What can a building tell us about the history of our city, of our country? How can we read and interpret the traces left by time in a particular space?
These were the questions asked of a class of pupils in a school in Berlin’s Grünau district in the workshop “Gedankenräume”, designed and led by Atelier Limo at the invitation of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt and the agency “Kulturagenten für kreative Schulen”.
Beginning with a thorough examination of their school involving observations, maps and drawings, the pupils then sought out and interviewed alumni of the school from the time of WWII or the GDR.

WORKSHOP 2

Following the collaboration “Gedankenräume” in 2012, the Grünau school and “Kulturagenten für kreative Schulen” once again invited Atelier Limo to design and lead a workshop on the history and memories of the town of Grünau. Funded by the programme “Berliner Projektfonds Kulturelle Bildung”, the workshop provided year 8 pupils with an opportunity to conduct a detailed exploration of the history of their town while also learning about filmmaking and interview techniques. Three short films about Grünau’s key historical sites were created and screened at the town’s community centre.
